Bike Recycling Project
One of our cornerstone initiatives is the Bike Recycling Project. This project aims to tackle waste and promote sustainable transport by salvaging bikes destined for scrap and refurbishing them. Here’s how it works and how you can get involved:
How It Works:
Collection
We work with local councils, businesses, and individuals to collect unwanted bikes. These bikes are often found at recycling facilities, donated by community or sourced from local community organisations.
Assessment
Each bike is carefully assessed by our team to determine the necessary repairs and refurbishments. We prioritise safety and quality to ensure each bike meets our high standards.
Refurbishment
Volunteers and staff work together in our workshop to repair and refurbish the bikes. This includes everything from fixing punctures and adjusting brakes to replacing parts and thoroughly cleaning the bikes.
Redistribution
Once refurbished, the bikes are made available to the community at affordable prices. We also donate bikes to local schools, charities, and community groups to promote cycling for all.
Volunteering Opportunities
Assistant Bike Mechanics and Workshop assistants: Assist in the refurbishment and maintenance of donated bicycles. No prior experience is necessary – we provide all the training you need!
Community Outreach: Help us spread the word about Clyde Cycle Hub by participating in local events, distributing flyers, and engaging with community members.
Event Support: Support our cycling events and workshops by helping with setup, registration, and participant coordination. Ensure our events run smoothly and safely.
Administrative Support: Assist with the day-to-day operations of Clyde Cycle Hub, including data entry, customer service, and social media management.
Cycling Ambassadors: Lead group rides, offer cycling advice, and promote safe cycling practices within the community. Inspire others to take up cycling and enjoy its many benefits.
